April - new arrivals, first juvenile..

April always a month of great expectations on the Teifi Marshes in our reedbed sites.

Early April delivered with an early White Wagtail ringed on the 8th.

White Wagtail

The following morning, the  9th April our first 2 Sedge Warblers.

White Wagtail passage will be over for us before the end of April, but Sedge Warbler passage usually  peaks early May. By the 28th, 44 White Wagtails have been ringed and 95 Sedge Warblers. Also two retrap Sedge Warblers from 2024 and 2025.

The re-encounter of our first Reed Warbler on the 18th, was expected. Often the majority of early Reed Warblers are our own ringed adults. By the 26th we had re-encountered 8 returning birds. The oldest was ringed in 2018 and seen each year since 2022.

Nests of several species including Dippers and Pied Flycatchers are being monitored.

The first fledgling of this breeding season was a Robin at Jane's Emporium site.
